April 6, 1943 ~ April 17, 2024 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Tribute

Charles “Chip” Henry Wight, III., 81, of Downingtown Pa. passed away April 17th, 2024.

Chip was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania on April 6th 1943 to Charles Wight, Jr. and Ann Weisenbach. After his father’s passing when he was young, Chip and his sister were adopted by William”Bill” Gerhard who raised them with Ann in Radnor Pennsylvania.

Chip was born with gasoline in his blood and wrench in his hand. From a young age, he realized his need for speed, especially motorcycles. He began his primary education at Episcopal Academy and graduated from Radnor high school in 1961. Chip went on to college and ultimately pursued his dreams to professionally race motorcycles in California. He enjoyed many exciting years of traveling and racing then returning to the Main Line in the early 70s to purchase a small motorcycle shop on Lancaster pike. Chip took his vision and grew that little store which he quickly became the face of the infamous Devon Honda. In the almost 3 decades of Devon Hondas existence, Chip sponsored many amateur races, inspiring countless young riders to have a love for racing, fought tirelessly for helmet and motorcycle safety, and brought Triumph Motorcycles to the Main Line and beyond. He didn’t just sell motorcycles, he made dreams come true and had a profound influence of the lives and careers of many. Chip closed Devon Honda and retired in the late 90s to enjoy life with family and friends but he never lost his passion and desire for motorcycles and riding. In his final years, he found a new passion and love for his 2 grandchildren who share the same fire in their hearts and gasoline in their veins.

Chip is survived and deeply missed by his beloved wife Nita “Neil” Wight and daughter Annsley Kalemjian, son-in-law Christopher Kalemjian and grandchildren Charles and Penelope.

A memorial service for Chip will be held at 6 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, where family and friends will be received form 4:45 pm until 5:45 pm.

One of Chip’s final joys in life was to enjoy rides with his grandson, sharing their love of history on the train. WCRR is 100% volunteer and rely on ticket sales and donations. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the West Chester Railroad to allow many more years of operation for other Opas to make memories with their grandchildren.
